the response is very good although with a slight learning curve compared to cable steer, learning to "bump" the pedal to fine tune your heading doesnt take long though. to me its much easier to use (once you get used to it) as there is absolutely NO torque steer even if you hit the hi-speed bypass. i can spend much more time on the water with this thing with NONE of the hip and back pain i would have running a traditional TM. i did try the record a track the other day and it worked great as well running back and forth along a 1/4 mile stretch of bluff. we fished this bluff for several hours catching over 60 crappie. the only thing i had to do after recording the first pass was hit the return to start and return to end buttons after each pass. i was then free to move about the boat to retie lost lures and such without having to worry about were the boat was drifting off to. i will say that using the spot lock with very little wind or current you still need to watch where the back of the boat drifts to if you are fishing close to bluffs or docks but this would also be true of any TM or even single point anchoring.
