Merc has got the Opti's nearly "idiot proof". The computer would've cut you back to limp/protective mode if you had gotten hot enough to trip it. It would likewise cut you back on a low water pressure warning until the pressure came up as well. The 2.5 (smallblocks) have always been a high pressure, low volume set up. And of course the 3.0 (big blocks) have always been the opposite. I was running a buddies 175 Opti (second generation, a 2007 model) on his Allison XB21 2+2 when we raised the plate to high while testing props. Just as I was getting her lined out she dropped too 8#s and the alarm came on and I immediately feared I had blown the SOB up. It wouldn't do that at 10 or more pounds, just once it got below 10 at 5k-WOT it would suddenly drop back too 2500 or so Rs. On my 08 225 Sport XS I've likewise raised the plate and "sucked air" with it and once it got below about 11#s the alarm would kick off and it would drop back in power but not so severaly as the the little 175 did. I likewise have had a couple of "no water/heat" alarms but I think it was grass/debris on the nosecone of my Sportmaster. Raise it up and the debris would fall off, cranker back up and STAND ON IT SON!!! ;) Kenney have you seen a Smartcraft gage in action? If not you really should take the time to see one in action. They are GREAT and I wouldn't have an Opti without one. (In fact I have two of the big 4" gages in my dash because I like leaving one on tach full time and use the other to toggle between whatever functions I desire. Usually I leave it on water pressure and when I hit the trim it shows that setting for a few seconds before automatically going back too the water pressure.) RA
