It can rain a little in the big 'O' and change the shoreline a bunch. I always used to hear it was the largest inland lake in the country, discounting the great lakes. I haven't fished much like Okeechobee but have fished Millwood in southwest Arkansas and loved all the grasses and big lily pads. They had florida strain bass planted there along with the alligators. Millwood lake record for Crappie is somewhere over 5 pds. i think, we've caught some really nice ones there. The Rock is a highland reservoir and entirely different than Okeechobee, i wouldn't mind fishing down there someday but don't think i'll ever make it at my age now. Still like hearing stories about the biggun's caught there, i know its a different world. It sounds like you've had a lot of fun and experience fishing the big 'O'. The deepest i've caught a keeper bass on the Rock was right at 60' in the fall of the year on a 3J spoon, a big 3 pd. spotted bass.o_O
