Yamaha Oil Hoses

Why is it that Yamaha decided to make all those "hoses" on their outboards an odd size. There is no 1/8", 1/4", or 3/8" or such inside diameter. It's either under or larger than our SAE sizes. Take the "oil lines" (Yamaha calls them Pipe Joints) from the oil pump to the intakes on the engine. On my ProV 150 there are 13 small hoses. They must be about 1/8" I.D. Now I'm not cheap by any means, but for about 12 total feet of this size hose, Yamaha wants $34.08 for the complete set. I'm thinking of taking off one hose and going to a hardware or hobby store that sells the clear plastic tubing to replace all these hoses, including the hose (pipe joint) from the remote oil tank to the engine side. BTW: The hose (#90445-11M81-00) from remote oil tank to engine is $25.86 for about 6 feet.

Has anyone here on the forum made such replacements with regular fuel/oil hoses to their outboard?
