Hello everyone. This is my first post and I have a question. I have a '91 17.5' Sprint 275 with a mid 80's 2.4 liter (200hp) mariner. This Sprint hull is almost an exact copy of a Hydra-Sports X-270 except it is about 150 to 200 lbs heavier. I currently don't have a jackplate installed and am running a 25P Laser II Prop. I bought a Vance 1 piece jack plate for the boat and plan on installing it within the next couple of weeks. With the Laser II, I can currently run 63mph (gps speed) with just me in the boat and a regular fishing equipment load and about 1/2 tank of fuel. At this speed, I'm turning 6,000 RPM, but I've still got some pedal to go. The Laser II doesn't seem to lift the hull very well either. I'm scared to turn the old motor any more since the oil injection is still hooked up. Once I get the plate installed, what prop would you recommend and what engine height would you recommend for my setup? I would like to get to 70mph at least.
