I just purchased an older 115 Merc, around early 80's. I have been told that for the older engines its a good idea to run high test fuel. Is there any merritt to this theory? What factors come into play for this good or bad? The motor has good compression on all 6 cylinders (around 118 psi I believe).

Also, when mixing two stroke engine oil, is there any specific advantage to use Mercury brand oil in this engine? Or will any quality 2 stroke marine be sufficient?
