Got a short story for yas. Was up at a TX one day about 200 miles away from home.
After the weigh in I went to retrieve my single axle trailer and noticed my buds wheels
on his dual axle and one was cocked. We jacked it up and noticed that the bearing
had failed and the outer race had welded itself to the axle stub making swapping out
the bearing impossible. So we tied the axle up and got him to my shop on 3 tires.
While I was driving home it occurred to me that if that had happened to me or got
a blowout I would be screwed big time. Got home and started looking at a tandem
replacement. Well the prices were crazy up around 4-5k. So I started looking at what
it would take to convert it to a dual axle. 1 week later and a lot of sweat and four
letter words I completed the job. The cost was 800.00 with brakes and 2 new wheels
and tires. It's a complete bolt on kit . If you are mechanically talented I highly recommend
trying this. I will never have a single again just for the piece of mind.
