Spotted bass may be placed on a threatened species list after a rare outbreak of a virus affecting the fish's reproductive system. Their number are expected to dwindle significantly and they are taking emergency action to protect them during the spawn. There is discussion of closing certain lakes where spotted bass are located during the spawning month to ensure that those bass that are not affected have the opportunity to spawn. Georgia and Corps of Engineers are considering closing lake Lanier to fishing during the last half of April to ensure a spawn of these bass. I'll post more on the subject as soon as they update the story.
