Crap, had this all typed out and had to reboot my machine and forgot I hadn't submitted it yet. Here's take 2:
As soon as I get finished with my current project (1981 Lowe Big Jon w/ 25 hp Merc) I'm going to start on the '85 Venture Magnum 1650 II with a 115 Mariner (1984 model) that was given to me a few weeks ago. I couldn't resist just poking around in it last night trying to see what I'm up against. It got infested with critters last winter that ate the wiring all up and the owners didn't want to fool with it anymore so they asked if I wanted it. I'm a glutton for punishment so I said YES!!! As I rummaged through it last night I came up with several questions. This is my 1st bass boat so a lot of this stuff it just foreign to me.
- On the console is a set of 4 switches. The top one is for Nav Lights. It is a 3 position switch and I don't know why a 3 position switch is needed. I thought Nav Lights would be off or on.
- The boat had 2 fish finders on it at one time. The front one was a Lowrance flasher type that I think used a "shoot through the hull" transducer. I see a wire coming up out of the carpet in the front storage unit but it got chewed in half so I don't know if I can reconnect a newer model fish finder to it or if I need to get a new transducer.
- There is no tilt/trim switch back on the motor itself; there's one at the dash and one on the accessory plate on the bow. How big of a deal is it to add one back near where the motor is?
- The attached picture shows the lower transom area of the boat. I know whoch one is the drain in the picture because I took the plug out of it, but I don't know what all the other fixtures are. Can somebody clue me in? As noted on the picture the one on the left of the motor has a single red wire coming from in inside. Would that be the transducer for the console fish/depth finder? Or is it the speedometer sensor?
- There are 2 livewells in the boat but it appears that there is only 1 pump to pump water in. Is that normal today, or was that just the way it was done in 1985? Should I consider adding a second pump so each livewell has it's own?
Thanks for all the help. I'm sure I'll have lots more questions before I'm finished.
Mike
