<!--FP:TEXT:Fishing Report-->LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 5.2 FEET, 81 DEGREES AND CLEAR

Bass fishing is a little slow this week and most of the bass caught
will be spotted bass. These bass are still chasing small schools of
shad on the main lake points and around any timber that might still be
left in the water. When we say shad, of course add the shad color Shad
Raps to the tackle all day. Deep water boat docks are still holding
bass but you must fish these early in the morning or late in the
evening. Now that water temperatures have dropped a few degrees, and
particularly weekday boating activity has dropped off, the top water
bite is improving again. Sebile Swimmers, Spooks, Sammy’s and flukes
will all catch fish on top off deep points. Working deep running
crankbaits and 10-12 inch worms around the tree tops in the same areas
will also produce. The three best top baits that are catching fish
are spinner baits, Flukes and the shad DT6 crank baits. Ten pound test
line and a medium action rod coupled with a slow presentation is all
it takes. As the water temperature cools down, the bass will become
more active feeding on small bait fish so try a small all white
Rooster Tail. There has also been some good shallow water activity,
and even in the heat of summer fish could be found lying in ankle deep
water in the backs of creeks. Big 10 to 12 inch worms on a Texas rig
and buzz baits fished early and late will work for these bass.
Schooling activity is just getting started, but it should take off in
earnest as water temperatures continue to drop and nights get cooler.
For now a lot of bait is in the mouths to about 1/2 way back in the
creeks, and they can already be seen busting on top at times.
