[ICAST 2024] New Quantum Benchmark Saltwater Spinning Reel
Quantum has excitedly announced a new line of spinning reels at ICAST 2024, the Quantum Benchmark reels. A new line of spinning reels designed to be able to handle harsh saltwater conditions easily while fishing. The Quantum Benchmark reels are going to be available in 6 sizes starting at 2500 for speckled trout, and going all the way up to 8000 for larger saltwater predators like tarpon. As the name of the reel implies Quantum’s goal for these reels is to set a new benchmark in saltwater reels for them. The reels feature premium materials and new tech from Quantum to do just that. The frame of the reel is machined out of aluminum to make it a sturdy and rigid base to keep all the gearing and bearings in proper alignment even under stress. To keep that gearing safe and corrosion-free inside the reel, the body and spool feature SEALOQ Protection (rated to IPX6) to keep any water, salt, and grit out of the reel. Going back to the gears in the reel these are all machined from premium aluminum and brass using Quantum’s GEARTEQ machining process to keep the tolerances tight and the reel smooth.
For the reel’s drag, they use the CFX20 Carbon Fiber Xtreme drag system to make some impressive max drag numbers, starting off with 20lbs of max drag with the 2500 size reels and going all the way up to 40lbs on the 8000s. But more than a high max drag the system says to offer a great range, and a consistent curve in drag force to make sure you don’t lose that big one during a long fight. The Quantum Benchmark Spinning reels have an MSRP of $149.95 to $189.95 and will be available as just the reel or in a combo from Quantum.
