I can't find the story but there was a house that caught fire a few days ago in Tennessee. The rural area did not have a fire department so they were supposed to pay the neighboring county a $75.00 fee to reimburse them for using their fire department. Well the unlucky homeowner never paid the fee so when the firefighters arrived they stood out in front of the house and let it burn down. The finally extinguished the blaze when it threatened the neighboring home who had paid the fee.
The owner tried to pay the $75.00 once they showed up but I guess its like trying to buy insurance after the accident. I hope the owner at least paid his homeowners insurance but I wouldn't be surprised if the denied the claim because of his failure to pay the fee.
