Green Energy or Green Greed

Here’s just a few facts to ponder concerning our government’s efforts to promote this so called “green energy” business.
1: The new Government Motors car, Volt. Incentive to purchase include the government giving customers a 7 grand rebate aka your tax dollars. Of course this is accomplished by a tax deduction and requiring that dealers do all the paperwork and upfront financing (akin to cash for clunkers). There ya go, coz of course there isn’t anyone competent enough within the government to do the actual work. All they’re good for is spending your cash.
2: Another point to ponder about the government subsidizing 7 grand discounts. Think about this. If you currently have a car that gets around 20mpg, the current price per gallon at the pump, and the average yearly mileage, you could have free gas for about 3 years and save on extension cords. Not to mention you still own a vehicle with some resale value after 3 yrs. The Volt……well, after 3 years you’re halfway worn out lithium battery will cost ya more than the resale value of the car.
3: Here’s a fair clue about electric vehicles. The state and feds already charge a gas tax at the pump to maintain roads, bridges and such. What’s your best bet about what would happen using electric. Can you say everyone who uses electric will be taxed?…..count on it. How are you going to declare how much electric is required by your car vs. standard usage?
I happen to agree that some advantage could be seen using small electric cars but the reality is so far fetched to be a replacement vehicle. Look at the years that it has taken to create comfortable, safe and reliable vehicles we have. The Volt, for example, touts a 40 mile range before a recharge. This doesn’t take into account the “if’s” involved such as. Using electric wipers, electric heat and defrost, dast you turn on your radio or cd player and you may as well forget about air conditioning. Also note the average charging time with a normal 110v outlet is at least 8 hours. Of course soon it will be known an expensive charging system is available from GE (how convenient since its green with government money) for about 1500 bucks……or you could do the option of upgrading your homes electric panel for an average of 3 grand.
Ok, so what’s the answers? The examples above are not to be negative or gripes from a smart ass. Rather it is common sense questions that no one seems to talk about, especially in the media. We’re all setting around listening to these “pie in the sky” solutions proposed by government people who don’t know jack chit about much except their next term. We hear little about improving what already exists or solving problems. Instead we have supported wild speculative, dreamy ideas while outlawing Edison’s incandescent bulb and doling out billions to people just because the “save the earth“ idea sounds so sincere. The hidden truth here is there are rip-off artists starting companies who can comply with the rules but have no clue about actually creating anything worthwhile. Honestly, I have a relative who owns a huge van conversion company who is also an expert in vehicle crash testing. A company from China building a rip-off copy of the Smart Car is seeking his advice. He knows first hand this company has many American investors who have received green stimulus money for a car that is bound to fail. My relative has as much as told them this car will not pass. But that’s ok because the money has already been received or a better term is wasted or stolen…..take your pick. Bet you never considered a lot of this stimulus money is not being used in America…..I doubt Obama will ever mention it nor will the media ask.
So the next time you hear Obama or politicians with his beliefs ask yourself some serious, common sense questions. Whatever vehicles you currently own has years of study and experience behind its design. You’re safe, warm, cool, and a ton of other things we take for granted because of it’s design based on using oil products (gas or diesel). A more common sense approach to solving some of our problems lie in converting natural or propane gas. These are already old technologies that have great potential when used in conjunction with gasoline or diesel fuel. They don’t get the attention because they are not green enough…..why??….well, because it requires drilling and God forbid that word being used in this goofy, 60’s mentality bunch of so called environmentalist. If you give a damn about solving problems and even halfway agree with what’s been said then start supporting this agenda at the ballot box. No one tells you about the lithium battery plant pollution, the extreme burns caused by electric vehicle crashes. Next time you hear the term “Green Energy” think about who’s pockets are being filled with some of the current ideas.
