Good GPS

Hey everyone, been racking my brain trying to find a good handheld GPS to plot fishing holes on and things of that nature but can't really seem to find one. The garmin etrex was one that i seemed to like the most but when you plot your waypoints it shows you the onland route to take. Is there anything out there that has fairly decent topgraphy maps, plus also a setting where you can use it on the lake without it trying to take you there on land?
