Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver

Checking to see if anyone out there has purchased a front mount trailer hitch receiver. Recently I purchased a 25' Coachmen Freelander and decided to purchase a Curt front mount trailer hitch receiver to make launching a little easier. The question I have is do I need a 2'- 4', 2" tubular extension or would I just be wasting my money. I have not taken this hitch out of the box yet....just checking for any information or suggestions anyone can offer.
