Carolina Rig

I'm going to rig up a Carolina rig and this will be my first time using it. I almost always use a pegged weight and texas rig but the fish seem to be sitting at the bottom of the canals now. I got the barrel swivels and 3/4 once egg weights. I have braid on the rod I'll be using but when I tie the rig up should I use mono instead of braid for the leader? Also I was going to use it with a creature bai but will this float above the weight or do I have to specifically use a floating type worm?

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
