I've posted a time or two about this being my favorite time of the year for bassin because the topwater bite is happening right now & nothing is better for me than to see a big bass blow up on my lure.
Here on Guntersville & the surrounding lakes I've observed many anglers simply drive over a lot of good areas holding fish for whatever unknown reasons, we've all done it.
Simply put, my favorite spot to fish is where I find them that day !
However, getting to know any lake can take some time, but finding the fish, providing they are there, should not be that difficult, especially with the better fish finders available today ... oh & a good dose of common sense plays a huge role too.
Ever watched a guy go hard from one place to another within eye shot of you & when you talk to him at the dock he's complaining about not catching much? But this same kind of guy is hardly ever paying attention to his electronics.... or putting fish in the livewell.
Last week I literally took a guy from the dock in my boat & showed him several spots on my Humminbird that he drove right over that was holding a ton of fish. I see him on a regular basis & he's always complaining that he can't find the fish.
Some of these spots are so subtle, they are EASY to drive over unnoticed or may be seen at particular angles than others, so slow down, investigate & let your electronics do their thing.
Nothing pisses me off any more than to a see a angler that has a $1500 fish finder & doesn't know how to use it, learn your electronics !
I'm sure you've been out fishing before with a buddy & both of you throwing the exact same rig while one of you are catching fish & the other is not. Is it simply bait presentation, wrong speed, wrong depth, is he fishing the outside of cover & you're not, is he fishing thru the open holes in heavy cover & you're not, etc. etc. etc. ?
To many times I rolled up on a spot & fished with bad habits & little forethought, maybe it's because I'm already tired, hot or whatever but using every available resource & again good common sense with a positive attitude is 99% of the battle.
Feeding cycles change pretty quick this time of the year & we must be willing to stick with it long enough to find out what is on the menu & how it must be served to get the BITE.
Just yesterday I was throwing topwater baits that have been working very well in this particular area & the bite just wasn't happening. Hell, I tried every topwater lure in my box & couldn't get bit. I reached to turn my screen a little & noticed the water temp had jumped up 4 degree's since my last trip 2 days ago .... then it hit me, slow the bait down dummy & give them time to react ... BOOM the bite was on & I was culling fish within 40 minutes.
I guess the gesture of this post is to remind everyone that it's EASY to get out of the proper mindset when bass fishing, just slow down & pay attention to the details because the fish surely do.
