I was throwing a topwater bait this morning and it brought to mind a memory from childhood. I was 6 or 7 years old and on one of my early trips to minnesota to fish with Dad and grandparents. I was working a topwater bait from the pier, I think it was a pico or cisco bait similar to a torpedo. An elderly lady from another cabin remarked that if there wasn't a fish at the surface right under my bait when it hit the water, I was wasting my time. Unfortunately that bad advice, given in ignorance, stuck with me for a number of years. Let's hear some other stories about bad advice, bet we can get some good laughs
