Running live well recirc

OK probably a simple question for the seasoned pros out here but with this Z7 my first bass boat I have a question regarding the live well and keeping fish alive in tournaments. I do not have a timer on my recirc system so what is a standard for operation of the system to keep fish alive. Will the air or water temp have much to do with it. I did see a post where some guys use frozen water bottles in the water. I'm more curious how much I need to run the recirc if there is a standard.
