Main advantage for me is casting distance on swimbaits, topwater, spooks, etc... I don't know about 10 footers through :p

Hell I haven't gone past the 6'6" rods yet. I bought the two 7 footers a few years ago, but sold them both within 6 months. I'm comfortable with the ones I use now.

My range was also between 6'6-7' but man after winning a 7'8 T. Allen casting rod, matching it up with my Lews BB1 reel and really seeing the casting distance compared to shorter rods, I have become a fan of longer rods for covering distance. But, working a topwater lure like a zara spook or pop-r, the shorter rod has an advantage as the tip stays outta the water when twitching down to make the lure work.

Shorter = Accurate. Longer = Distance. I don't use anything over 7 foot except a flipping stick and deep cranking rod.
