It's that time of year again when many anglers have begun winterizing their boats and have put the fishing rods down and picked up the bow or gun instead. Because fewer anglers are getting out there is little new fishing activity to report this week.
Lake Ontario

The lake report has ended for the season.
Oswego River

The river flow is down and is at 4,920 cubic feet per second (cfs) as of 10/21. Personal flotation devices are still recommended if you are near the water. There is salmon, steelhead and brown trout in the river with egg sacs, beads, egg imitating flies, stickbaits and Hot-n-Tots all working.

Salmon River

The river flow continues to be at 750 cfs as of 10/21. There are still some salmon in the river and steelhead action is really starting to pick up. Salmon are actively spawning in the rifle areas and good baits are streamers (egg sucking leeches) and egg imitating flies or plastics. Steelhead are also being taken on eggs, trout beads, and egg imitating flies and plastics. Just a heads up that the Pineville Bridge has been removed and there is a detour in the area.
Oneida Lake

Walleye are still being taken by anglers trolling with stickbaits, spoons, and warm harnesses. The walleye action has also picked up for anglers casting stickbaits from shore after dark. Black & silver and blue & silver are always good colors this time of year. Some yellow perch are being taken in 12 to 20 feet of water on jigs and minnows.

Sandy Pond

Things are slow on the pond but some largemouth bass are still hitting spinnerbaits, rubber worms and crankbaits.
Cayuga Lake

Lake trout fishing has been slow. Some fish are still being taken around AES, Taughannock and Sheldrake. Lakers are being caught in 70 to 100 feet of water by anglers vertical jigging with plastics. They are also being taken 75 to 90 feet down by anglers trolling with flasher & flies or spoons. Shore anglers are getting some lakers on jigs or egg sacs around Taughannock. Sunfish and perch are also being taken in the north end in 15 feet of water.
Owasco Lake

Lake trout fishing has been slow but a few laker's are being taken by anglers trolling on the north end in 50 to 80 feet of water with spoons or Spin Dr.'s & fly rigs. Anglers vertical jigging in 90-100 feet of water are also getting a few lake trout. Some yellow perch are also hitting on small minnows.
Skaneateles Lake

Trolling on the surface in the middle of the lake with stickbaits is producing a few rainbow trout and occasional lake trout. Shore anglers are getting a few rainbow trout on marshmallow & worm rigs. Anglers fishing 15 to 35 feet of water with tube jigs or drop-shot rigs are catching some nice smallmouth bass. Yellow perch are hitting in 25 to 35 feet of water on small minnows.
Otisco Lake

Few anglers have been out so there is no new report.

Whitney Point Reservoir

The reservoir is back down but still a little murky. As the water is clearing up anglers are starting to catch bass, walleye and some crappies.

Susquehanna, Chenango, Tioughnioga and Unadilla Rivers

The rivers are still running a little high but overall the fishing has been good. Smallmouth bass are hitting well on tube jigs with pretty much any color working well at this time. Walleye action has been slow but things should improve with the cooler weather.
Eastern Region 8

Lake Ontario

Anglers casting from the piers and at river mouths with spoons such as Cleo's, Krokodiles and KO wobblers are catching some steelhead. Brown trout and steelhead are being taken in Maxwell Creek on egg sacs or egg imitating flies and plastics.
Genesee River

There are salmon and steelhead being reported from the mouth of the river up to the dam. Egg sacs and egg imitating plastics are working well. Fish are also being taken by anglers casting spoons off the pier at the river mouth.
Sodus Bay

Some steelhead are hitting spoons and egg sacs cast off the pier. Yellow perch fishing is starting to pick up in the bay. Anglers aren't getting a lot of perch yet but when they get one it's a good one.
Irondequoit Bay

Yellow perch fishing has been slow with mostly small perch being caught at this time. Salmon and steelhead are being taken in Irondequoit Creek for anglers fishing with egg sacs or egg imitating plastics.
Seneca Lake

Yellow perch are hitting small minnows or night crawlers fished in 30 feet of water on the south end of the lake. A mix of lake trout and salmon are being taken on spoons 60 to 75 feet down over 150 feet of water. There are no reports of salmon in the tributaries yet.
Canandaigua Lake

Lake trout are being caught down 50 to 90 feet over 70 to 150 feet of water with green spoons working well at this time. Anglers vertical jigging in 60 to 80 feet of water are also taking lake trout on plastics.

Keuka Lake

Lake trout are still being taken by anglers vertical jigging in the Bluff area in 90 to 115 feet of water. Trout are also being taken by anglers trolling spoons and flasher & fly rigs down 50 to 75 feet over 100 to 150 feet of water. Green and white continue to be good colors.
Waneta and Lamoka Lakes

Smallmouth bass fishing continues to be good in 15 to 20 feet of water on minnows and crankbaits. Crappies are hitting on small minnows.
