Every year on the Bassmaster Elite Series there seems to be a certain “X factor” that changes or even defines the season. It could be a particular bait or technique. This year, in my opinion, it’s going to be technology.

Hmmm kinda reads like an electronics brochure lol. No doubt the electronics are good but most of us can't even stay four or five steps behind. I came to the realization that reading articles on using sonar is not going to help me as angler. Sure its interesting to see what is possible but the units they talk about are a different animal than my 5" and 3.75" units.

I know one the elite series and flw tour the big electronic companies pay a lot of money to showcase the top of the line units. I also think some anglers have had enough, that's why the flw angler of the year fishing without a graph has caught so much attention. Bobby Murray, Earl Bentz and others have been arguing for a mandatory reduction in horsepower for outboards sighting that fishing has become too expensive for many. How about limiting size and number of graphs? Many pros are running two at the helm and two up front, what does that say to the weekend angler other than he needs $8-$12 just in graphs to be competitive! That isnt counting the ipad for google earth, the extra wires for networking it all, pinpoint accurate GPS antennas, power poles, hydrowave, and at least half a dozen go pros to film yourself!

I think that may be a big part of the appeal of MLF: 18ft boats, 150hp, two 7" graphs that's it. Maybe we will see an expansion of MLF as similar to the elites and flw but a different feel. Kinda like nfl and college football same game but different styles.

Im rambling, must mean it's winter and Im waiting on spring for better weather lol
