Aberdeen Lake - 11/8/2010

ABERDEEN LAKE (TENN-TOM): The crappie reports are still fair to good. Best depths have been 4-6 ft deep around any woody cover along the channel and in the sloughs. Both jigs and minnows are catching fish but one may out produce the other on any given day. The bass reports continue to be fair to good. The bigger sloughs and backwater areas where shad are showing up are best areas. Shallow grass is holding good numbers of keeper size fish. Best baits have been shallow crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and dark colored t-rigged plastics like brushhogs and senkos. The catfish bite is fair. Most anglers are hitting the old river runs and also the Tombigbee River itself with tightlined cutbait and liver on a. Jug fishing those same areas should also produce some fish.

Columbus Lake - 11/8/2010

COLUMBUS LAKE (TENN-TOM): The crappie bite is fair to good. Hit the old river runs right now for best results. The runs that are closed off on the upstream end will be the ones to target. Crappie are holding on stumps and laydowns in 4 to 8 ft of water that have deeper water nearby. Try both jigs and minnows to see what the fish prefer. The bass reports are still fair. The river runs are producing a few quality fish, and the gravel pits are holding good numbers of keeper-size bass. The bass seem to be holding on woody cover next to deeper water. Throw shallow running crankbaits or rattletraps where shad are active. Catfish reports are the same as for Aberdeen with most folks hitting the channel and the mouths of the old river runs with jugs and rod-n-reels with some success.
Bay Springs - 11/8/2010

BAY SPRINGS: Bass reports are fair. It took around 13 pounds to win a local tournament this past weekend. The larger coves with standing timber have been holding bass. Best baits have been spinnerbaits and t-rigged plastics. Other bass anglers are hitting either mainlake points or secondary points and using Carolina-rigged plastics and dropshots. The crappie reports are fair. Target sunken brushtops in the deeper water. Crappie jigs have been best baits. Popular areas for crappie right now are the mouths of McDougal Branch and Jackson Camp. The catfish reports are fair with a few folks jug fishing and using rod-n-reels in the canal between Bay Springs and Pickwick.

Alicevile Lake - 11/8/2010

ALICEVILLE LAKE (TENN-TOM): Anglers are reporting a fair bass bite on Aliceville. A few anglers are fishing the creeks and the riprap right below Columbus Dam and reporting some success. These anglers have been throwing white spinnerbaits and square-billed crankbaits. Other areas with good reports are Pratts Camp, Kincaid Creek, and Big Coalfire. Best baits have been t-rigged plastics such as brushhogs, along with shallow crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Shad patterns are working the best. The crappie reports are fair with most anglers working the timber and brush at Pratts or the vegetation in Pumpkin Creek. Both jigs and minnows are catching a few fish. Catfish reports are the same for Aberdeen and Columbus with most folks hitting the channel and the mouths of the old river runs with jugs and rod-n-reels with some success. Try cutbait and small whole-shad.

Trace State Park - 11/8/2010

TRACE STATE PARK: Best reports over the past week are from the crappie anglers. The crappie anglers are catching fish along the creek channels. Crappie are suspended in 10 ft of water in these areas and both jigs and minnow are catching fish. Also try trolling jigs and small crankbaits. Bream anglers are reporting catches off the points and in the coves around cover. Tight-lining grubs, wigglers or crickets have been productive techniques. The bass bite is fair with a few good fish being caught and good numbers of 11 to 13 inch bass also. Most bass are moving shallow with cooler water temps. Points and coves in 5 to 8 ft of water with some sort of grassy or woody cover have been best areas. Best baits are swimbaits, senkos and t-rigged plastic worms.

Tippah County Lake - 11/8/2010

TIPPAH COUNTY LAKE: Crappie anglers are reporting a fair bite while trolling the main lake creek channel and also hitting the shoreline brushtops. Both jigs and minnows are producing. The bream bite has been fair around brushtops in 3-8 feet of water with wigglers being the best bait. The bass reports are still fair. Any brushtops have been holding bass, as well as the shoreline weeds. T-rigged plastic worms and flukes have been best baits in the grass. Others have been hitting mainlake points and creek channels with crankbaits and softplastics. A recent survey of the lake revealed the lake is overstocked with bass so remember to keep some bass next time youre at Tippah to help increase the average size in the population.

Grenada Lake - 11/9/2010

For water level information, call (662)226-5911 or check http://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/riverstage/bullet.txt Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 has gotten some good crappie reports recently slow trolling the main lake with jigs and/or minnows 4 to 6 ft deep from Carver Point around to the Skuna side. Crappie can be taken jigging the timber 3 to 4 ft deep in 5 to 6 ft of water in the Torrance Landing area. There is a Crappie USA tournament here the 20th. Bass have been concentrated on any remaining channels and/or cover. Fishing the edges of the creeks or rivers with spinnerbaits, crankbaits, or soft plastics has been producing, as well as fishing main lake points and remaining cover (brush tops, stake beds, etc.) with the same lures up to 10 ft deep. Catfishing has been good on various baits fished on the bottom. White bass can be taken off main lake points with small, shad-imitating spoons or crankbaits. There is no size or number limit on white bass. The lake was 1.7 ft above rule curve Tuesday. See http://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/offices/ed/edh/plots/grenplot.jpg Fall drawdown is underway.
Prentiss Walker Lake - 11/3/2010

Water temperature is 66 degrees with water visibility around 28 inches.
BASS are biting good along the banks with dark plastics working the best (ex. black/blue). Fish the edges of cover with small topwater baits.

Okatibbee Reservoir - 11/4/2010

The lake level rose to 337.9 ft. after the recent rainfall. The water temperature is 71 degrees at the dam. Water is being released through the dam at 18 cfs. Crappie continue to hold in creek channels and in the deep water near the dam. Trolling with jigs and minnows is the best method to get a mess. Bass fishing continues to be fair as fish hold on the deeper dropoffs and points. Soft plastics and deep running crankbaits are the best choices for baits. Catfishing is best on trotlines. Best baits include shrimp and cut baits.
