I got tired of critters using my wiring for nesting material and covered compartments as winter homes and storage areas so I used mothballs. That seamed to work but come spring everything stunk. So I experimented with other means and heres what I came up with.
A sure fire way to keep mice, squirrels, cats, rats out of your rig is to sprinkle a few drops of spearmint oil in every compartment. Not peppermint oil. It works better than moth balls and smells a whole lot better. I even put some on the wheels to keep them from climbing up on them. You get it at any health food store at around 6 bucks for 4 ozs. A bottle will last a few years.
I have been using it on my tractor for winter storage and so far no nests and the wiring is in tact.
