SACRAMENTO — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is hoping to turn California's clunkers into some much-needed cash for the state.
The state is hosting the "Great California Garage Sale" this Friday and Saturday at a state warehouse in Sacramento. The state is clearing out nearly 600 state-owned vehicles and thousands of pieces of office furniture, computers, electronics and jewelry.
California Department of General Services spokesman Eric Lamoureux says the state is selling unclaimed property from state parks and items confiscated by law enforcement. The prison department contributed dental chairs and surplus prison shirts and jeans.
The governor has even autographed 15 car visors in an effort to fetch higher bids on vehicles.
Cant say it hasnt a personal touch.
State officials estimate the giant yard sale will bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars.
